Who we are

Mt. Airy CDC was founded in 1980 as the Mt. Airy Village Development Corporation (MAVDC), an outgrowth of West Mt. Airy Neighbors (founded 1959) and East Mt. Airy Neighbors (founded 1966). While these organizations helped to stabilize and integrate their respective sides of the neighborhood, Germantown Avenue, the community’s business corridor, had grown tired and suffered from blight and dilapidation, so members from each group teamed up

MAVDC, now Mt. Airy CDC, was initially focused on acquisition and rehabilitation of neglected commercial storefronts along the Avenue, transforming them into locally-owned, income-producing properties. That focus has since evolved into a multi-faceted approach to support the growth of Mt. Airy. Currently, Mt. Airy CDC works towards its mission in four core program areas: Housing Counseling, Real Estate Development, Business Services, and Community Programs.

From 1997 to 2018, the organization was known as Mt. Airy USA. In 2019, we became Mt. Airy Community Development Corporation (Mt. Airy CDC). With key partnerships including our continued collaboration with WMAN and EMAN, as well as the Mt. Airy Business Improvement District—and perhaps most importantly, dedicated residents and volunteers—Mt. Airy CDC will continue working to improve the quality of life for Mt. Airy and Northwest Philadelphia.
