historic restoration and preservation

The layers of history that comprise Mt. Airy’s urban fabric date back some 300 years—and help define what people recognize as Mt. Airy.

Especially as development pressure from Philadelphia’s residential construction boom has reached into Mt. Airy and neighboring Germantown and Chestnut Hill, emphasizing our historic assets has never been more urgent.

Mt. Airy CDC has rehabilitated a number of historic properties including Winston Commons and 6614-16 Germantown Avenue, an over-200-year-old home converted to ground floor retail and apartments upstairs. And our conservatorship program nips blight in the bud and helps bring older properties back into active contemporary life.
