moonlight movies

Mt. Airy CDC is hosting a single Moonlight Movie for the 2024 season, and it’s a special one: The Holdovers starring Mt. Airy native and Oscar-winning actress Da’Vine Joy Randolph.

This 2023 film takes place on the campus of a New England boarding school in the early 1970s. Acclaimed actor Paul Giamatti is a rigid Classics teacher who is forced to chaperone a group of boys (the “holdovers”) who won’t be going home for Christmas break. Randolph is the school’s cafeteria manager, a grieving mother who has lost her son to the Vietnam War. Come along for the ride as these actors embark on an improbable comedic journey with their private school charges over one snowy Christmas in Massachusetts.

Temple Health – Chestnut Hill Hospital, Paint Philly, and NewCourtland are our generous sponsors for this free event.

The movie begins at sunset (it needs to be dark to see the screen!), so start time is approximately 8 pm. We invite the community to join us for a free screening of the film along with snacks, cold treats, and drinks available for purchase from Sheree’s Home Cooking and Frios Popsicles. Follow us on Facebook or Instagram for the latest updates.

This event is open to the public, but please note that the film is rated R and not suitable for younger residents.

Bring a blanket or a lawn chair, and let’s make a night of it!
