How A PhillyiHub Alum Realized Her Dream of Starting a Fashion Design Business
Julia Turner Lowe is the entrepreneur and clothing designer behind JTL Designs. Julia has designed and made her own clothes all her life, starting from the age of 13. After retiring from a career in finance and education, she wanted to bring her creativity and understanding of fashion to other full-figured women.
She enrolled in our PhillyiHub business training program in 2018 to hone her vision. She says the most valuable aspect was the creation of a Business Model Canvas, which allowed her to map out her unique value proposition, key metrics, cost structure, revenue streams, customer segments, and more. That training set her on her way to evolve her business–and to be able to pivot when the pandemic hit in 2020.Â

These days Julia focuses on timeless designs, flattering looks, natural fibers, quality construction, and attention to detail. Her guiding belief is that every woman, no matter her size, should be able to purchase clothing made with exceptional craftsmanship and beautiful, luxurious fabrics. Her business allows her to share her passion for self-expression and self-acceptance.
With help from the training she received through our PhillyiHub program, Julia has been able to realize her dream of running a fashion design business, right from her home studio in Mt. Airy.
