Finance Manager

Job Description

Hours: Part-time (30 hours/week)

Reports to: Executive Director

Salary Range: $50,000-60,000 per year

Description:

The Finance Manager is responsible for oversight of Mt. Airy CDC’s finances and execution of daily bookkeeping tasks. Duties include the following:

Management of accounts payable and receivable

○ Properly record and process invoices for payment, ensuring billing to correct sources and class codes.

○ Issue invoices to customers and tenants as directed by management and at appropriate automatic intervals.

○ Follow up with past-due accounts to request payment

○ Review and manage credit card expenses across the organization.

○ Compile weekly AP and AR reports for review by the Executive Director.

Budgeting

○ In collaboration with the Executive Director, prepare the organization’s annual operating budget and undertake associated analyses as requested.

○ Prepare monthly reports on actual revenues and expenditures versus budget.

○ Work with the Executive Director manage cash flow throughout the year.

Reporting and Oversight

○ Prepare financial reports on a weekly and monthly basis for review by the Executive Director and the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors.

○ Attend monthly Board Finance Committee meetings.

○ Ensure adherence to security standards for banking and financial information

Audit

○ Ensure compliance with US GAAP nonprofit accounting standards and with established internal controls for recording of revenue and expenses throughout the year, obtaining clarification from the organization’s accounting firm when needed.

○ Serve as the primary staff contact for the organization’s annual audit, producing documentation and responding to requests from auditors.

○ Implement audit recommendations to realize continued improvements.

Finance Management

○ Work with the Executive Director and Administrative Coordinator to streamline procedures for management and payment of billing accounts.

○ Work with staff to ensure accurate recordkeeping between the organization’s accounting software and CRM database.

○ Update and standardize coding system for revenues and expenses to ensure agreement among budgets and internal reports.

○ Implement an improved system for submission and processing of payment requests.

○ Work with the Executive Director to formulate and achieve the organization’s financial goals.

○ Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies

  • Minimum 2 years experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or finance.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills
  • Works well independently; problem-solver and self-starter
  • Experience with QuickBooks software is essential
  • Fully-competent with email communications, Microsoft Office suite, Google Suite
  • Experience with non-profit accounting is a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • University degree preferred
