
Community Programs Coordinator
Job Description
Hours: Part-time (22.5 hours per week)
Reports to: Executive Director
Pay rate: $24,000-29,000/year
Description:
The Community Programs Coordinator oversees Mt. Airy CDC’s (MACDC) Community Development work, including education advocacy, youth literacy, community engagement, and special neighborhood projects. Duties include the following:
● Facilitate Mt. Airy Schools Coalition (MASC) meetings, including meeting planning, invitations, agendas, and minutes.
○ Develop relationships with principals, staff, parents, and home-school associations in order to expand the MASC into an effective advocacy group
○ Work with MACDC staff and leadership to find resources and partnerships for meeting MASC priorities.
● Manage MACDC’s annual Reading Revolution Summer Literacy Camp (July-August), including:
○ Selection and training of site instructors and support staff
○ Overall management of camp logistics, including ordering and provision of supplies
○ Coordination with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation partner sites
○ Direct oversight of Holman Field camp program
○ Enrollment and communication with camp participants
○ Data collection on camp outcomes
● Management of MACDC’s 2025-28 Literacy Rich Neighborhood Initiative (LRNI) grant-funded work:
○ Collaboration with project consultants to oversee site selection and design for new literacy installations
○ Attendance at project planning meetings
○ Organization of community engagement events (evenings)
○ Work with MACDC Communications Manager to ensure email and social media communications about program activities
● Promotion of year-round literacy programming, including:
○ Communication with Literacy Rich Neighborhood Initiative (LRNI) partner sites and libraries
○ Periodic monitoring of existing LRNI installations to ensure proper function and maintenance
○ Coordination with Reading Captains and local literacy groups
○ Organization of literacy activities at select events
● Participation in Mt. Airy 2025 Neighborhood Plan implementation work, including attendance at periodic meetings and coordination of community survey efforts.
○ Develop positive relationships with neighborhood and institutional stakeholders.
○ Provide staff support for community development work in MACDC programs, special events, and special projects.
○ Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Competencies
● Knowledge/Experience in areas such as urban education, youth education, literacy, community development, or community organizing
● Strong program coordination and organization skills, including flexibility, professionalism, and creativity
● Position requires time spent both indoors and outdoors. Must be able to be physically active with children, walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs.
● Strong interpersonal skills, including group facilitation skills, conflict management, and ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders
● Works well independently; problem-solver and self-starter
● Strong verbal and written communication skills
● Fully-competent with email communications, Microsoft Office suite, Google Suite

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
● Employment is conditional on the successful candidate obtaining a satisfactory Child Abuse History Certification from the PA Department of Human Services (cost reimbursed) to be able to work with children.
