

Community Economic Development Coordinator
Job Description
Hours: Full time (37.5 hours/week), exempt
Reports to: Executive Director
Salary range: $42,000-$45,760, commensurate with experience
The Community Economic Development Coordinator will oversee commercial corridor management, small business support, and community support functions in Northwest Philadelphia’s Mt. Airy neighborhood. Duties include the following:
- Serve as Commercial Corridor Manager for the 6300-7600 blocks of Germantown Avenue, visiting businesses on a monthly basis.
- Develop professional relationships with local merchants. Understand and evaluate their needs.
- Provide technical assistance and referrals to small business owners to help them access city services, grant and loan opportunities, and other business development resources.
- Provide information and referrals to MACDC’s Philly iHub entrepreneur education classes.
- Provide staff support for the Go Mt. Airy Business Association, including organizing monthly meetings, managing membership recruitment and renewals, and other tasks as determined by the Association.
- Collaborate with the Communications Manager to compose and disseminate monthly business newsletters.
- Organize periodic promotions to help Business Association members market themselves.
- In collaboration with the Mt. Airy BID, inform business owners about resources for storefront improvement, renovations, and beautification. Assist with project organization and implementation as needed.
- Serve as primary organizer for Mt. Airy Business Expo, Supper Sessions on the Avenue, Autumn on the Avenue, and other events.
- Support the implementation of economic development goals in the Mt. Airy 2025 Neighborhood Plan.
- Develop positive relationships with neighborhood and institutional stakeholders.
- Represent the interests of Mt. Airy CDC at the PACDC’s Commercial Corridor Working Group.
- Provide staff support for community and business engagement work for MACDC programs and special projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Competencies
- 1-4 years experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience in economic development, community development, or related fields.
- Knowledge/experience with small business development or operations
- Experience with planning events is desirable
- Ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders
- Works well independently; problem-solver and self-starter
- Fully-competent with email communications, Microsoft Office suite, Google Suite
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Position requires time spent both indoors and outdoors. Must be physically able to visit small businesses on foot throughout the year, walk, sit, stand, climb stairs.
- University degree preferred
