Historic Mt. Airy Discussion Series

At the dawn of 2020, Philadelphia’s building boom enters another decade with no end in sight. The inevitable growth and change have reached into Mt. Airy – putting the historic fabric of the neighborhood at risk.

In this series, we will examine how one developer shaped the look of East Mt. Airy at the turn of the 20th century; we’ll consider how the 21st century will handle the burial of the historic Wingohocking Creek into sewers; we’ll weigh the pros and cons of historic preservation in contemporary Philadelphia and Mt. Airy; and we’ll learn what we can do to add landmarks to the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places, preventing their removal from the landscape.

This four-part series is presented by Mt. Airy CDC, CAMA (Community Acupuncture of Mt. Airy), East Mt. Airy Neighbors (EMAN), and the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia.

All events will be held in the Community Room of Lovett Memorial Library (6945 Germantown Avenue):
